Rafunaama presents Taana Baana (Warp/Weft), an textile art showcase from 14th to 16th August 2026, curated by Fatima Juned, hosted in collaboration with mool: multidimensional space and art collective in New Delhi, India. The exhibition features textile artworks by Rafunaama 2025 Grantees and partners including the Khwab-e-rafu project, workshops, interactive installations, and conversations that wove threads of connection and repair.

Our latest essay on Kantha Connections: Stitching Across Borders Writing Women published an essay about our Kantha Connections stitching circles! 

 

With every stitch, Kantha represents a refusal to discard and a renewal of purpose. Historically, women in South Asia stitched together worn saris and old cloth, layering fabric over fabric until something new emerged. Known as Kantha in the Bengal region, the same practice found many names across the subcontinent but the underlying principle remained the same. Nothing was wasted. Our work on feminist futuring through Phulkari practices was recently published in the Journal of Futures Studies!

 

This essay explores phulkari not only as an artistic tradition but as a vibrant feminist method for collective healing and futuring. This essay combines personal narrative, scholarly reflection, and documentation of two workshops I hosted in 2025 that reimagined phulkari embroidery as a method for feminist futuring, asking critical “what if” questions and envisioning healing futures in embodied making, intersectional solidarity, and radical hope.” Read more…
